Our Mission
Hepatitis B is an infectious liver disease caused by the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). It is a global health concern in that 240 millions people worldwide are affected, accounting for 1 in 10 Asian Pacific Islanders (APIs). HBV infection is commonly asymptomatic and in many cases increases the risk of cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) and liver cancer. Organizations like ours work towards prevention through promoting vaccination and screening. For more information, please visit liver.stanford.edu and/or your local health professionals.
Founded in 2009, Stanford Team HBV’s goal is to create a strong, unified community that will promote, support, and further efforts to eradicate hepatitis B. We hope to raise awareness of the disproportionately high incidence of hepatitis B and liver cancer among APIs and provide educational and fun programming to the Stanford community to encourage healthy liver living and involvement disparity.
Since our inception, we have put on events such as plushie-making, fundraisers, and discussions, collaborating with cultural and pre-medical organizations on campus. Team HBV chapters span from the Asian Liver Center at the Stanford School of Medicine, where research, education, and prevention efforts aim to eventually eradicate hepatitis B through the #JOINJADE campaign.
